black hole

A black hole is a region of space that has so much mass concentrated in it that there is no way for a nearby object to escape its gravitational pull, the escape velocity is greater than speed of light.

When a large star reaches the end its life cycle a supernova can occur where the outer material of the star  is blown apart in an massive explosion. The inner core can collapse in on itself because of gravity and so the density of the core increases.
